Pokémon card grading
We photograph every card under light from several angles to map its surface. The grade, the four subgrades and every defect behind them go on a public page under the cert number.

How the grade is calculated
Each defect we find is logged by type and size, from XXS to XL, and each size takes a fixed number of points off its subgrade. A light scratch costs 1.2 points. A deep one costs 4.5.
The final grade is the lower of two numbers: the weighted average of the subgrades, rounded up to the half point, and the lowest subgrade plus one. A bent corner can't hide behind three perfect scores.
Read the full grading scale- Centering 10% of the grade
- Border ratios measured on the front and the back. 55/45 or better scores 10. Past 65/35, the card is graded without centering and marked OC.
- Surface 30% of the grade
- Read from the photometric scan, which shows scratches and indents even on holo foil. Sixteen defect types, from print lines to water damage.
- Edges 30% of the grade
- Wear, chipping, roughness and factory-rough cuts.
- Corners 30% of the grade
- Whitening, fraying, shape, bends and dents.
